Ahead of a crucial race weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, James Calado has provided a clear and transparent assessment of Ferrari and their ongoing WEC championship campaign. The British driver highlighted that extreme tire degradation and unpredictable weather forecasts will serve as major variables throughout the upcoming endurance weekend in Spain.
Entering the Spanish round, the #51 Ferrari crew finds themselves 30 points adrift in the drivers' standings, while the iconic Italian manufacturer faces a steep uphill battle against competitors like Toyota and BMW in the manufacturers' championship fight. Every single session at the Catalan circuit now represents a pivotal turning point for the team.
Speaking from the paddock between practice sessions, Calado welcomed the circuit layout changes, praising the removal of the slow chicane in the final sector. He explained that returning to high-speed sweeping corners suits heavy and long prototype machines much better, allowing them to fully leverage their aerodynamic potential on track.

Despite a challenging season filled with fluctuating performance gaps compared to their rivals, the Hypercar driver emphasized the team's unwavering determination to maximize every available opportunity. Technical concerns remain paramount, particularly regarding the behavior of the rubber compounds across the grid.
As noted by the driver, the tire compounds seem to present massive degradation issues for everyone running in the LMH class this weekend, while looming rain adds another layer of unpredictability. Reflecting on the championship chase, he admitted that while the mathematical chances are very slim, the team approaches the remaining races with their usual fighting spirit.
