Max Verstappen showed his class once again, but this time not on an F1 track. The four-time world champion took on a unique challenge: a kart race against 100 opponents at Silverstone Circuit on Wednesday.
The event, hosted by Red Bull, pitted Verstappen against various online personalities and fellow Red Bull athletes. The format was unusual: Verstappen started from the very back, and each time he overtook a competitor, that competitor was eliminated from the race.
However, with 100 karts fighting for the same piece of track on the opening lap, chaos ensued. Collisions occurred at various corners. Verstappen himself cut the track and found himself in P36, but in the process, he eliminated almost two-thirds of the field on the first lap.
From there, the Dutchman began to carve his way forward. The closer he got to the front, the harder it became as the opposition grew more competitive. It took 35 minutes from the start for Verstappen to overtake his final competitor and complete the challenge.
“That was simply lovely, wasn't it?” Verstappen said after it was over. “I really thought my first lap would be a disaster, but I got helped a little bit with people getting super excited and crashing. That helped, a little bit—but it was a lot of fun.”
This victory is nothing new for Verstappen, who is known to enjoy karting in his spare time. However, the unique format and the sheer number of opponents—100—made this event a spectacle, proving that his racing instincts remain sharp even when he's not behind the wheel of an F1 car.
