Vasseur: We Will Talk to Leclerc and Hamilton After Clash

A dark cloud hung over Ferrari's Italian Grand Prix weekend. A first-corner clash between Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton left the Maranello squad licking their wounds in front of their home crowd. Now, Fred Vasseur has spoken out.

While Andrea Kimi Antonelli celebrated a fairytale victory before ecstatic tifosi, Ferrari’s title hopes took a severe blow. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton made contact at the first chicane, dropping both cars down the order. Leclerc's afternoon later ended in the barriers at the Parabolica, triggering an early retirement.

Speaking to Sky Sport F1, Vasseur admitted the growing tension within the team needs addressing. “We will have to discuss with both drivers to clarify the situation,” he said. “It’s a shame what happened. Being eighth after the first corner is not ideal.”

The big question remains: did the team discuss how to avoid such a disaster at Monza’s notoriously tricky first corner before the race? Vasseur remained tight-lipped but stressed that internal dialogue will be key.

However, talks with Leclerc will have to wait. The Monegasque chose to leave the circuit early after his heavy crash at the Alboreto corner. “Charles told me he was okay,” Vasseur explained. “He preferred to go home as soon as possible. It was quite a shock for him, as the impact was around 50G. I will call him in the coming days.”

This incident not only ruined Ferrari's home race but also dented their championship ambitions. With performances fluctuating, Vasseur must quickly find a way to ease tensions and refocus the team.
