Yuki Tsunoda has no intention of returning to the sidelines in Formula 1. The Japanese driver is adamant about continuing to race, ideally in F1, after getting a taste of competition again while deputising for Liam Lawson at Racing Bulls.
Tsunoda is set for his third race standing in for Lawson, who is temporarily covering for the injured Isack Hadjar at Red Bull. His outings at Zandvoort and Monza have reignited his desire to compete full-time. "I'm not thinking of just standing around in the garage next year; I don't want to do that again," he stated.
Focus on Performance, Negotiations Left to Management
After scoring points at Monza, Tsunoda believes he made a positive impression. "I leave those things to my manager," he said, preferring to concentrate on his on-track performance, which he trusts will help his future prospects.
While IndyCar has been linked, Tsunoda insists Formula 1 remains his top priority. "If Red Bull gave me the opportunity to drive again within these four seats, that's amazing," he added.
F1 Options: Open but Challenging
His ties with Honda have fuelled speculation about Aston Martin, especially if Fernando Alonso retires. However, with Lance Stroll seemingly settled, Tsunoda's chances there appear slim. At Haas, Esteban Ocon's seat is vulnerable, but Tsunoda is not believed to be in Ayao Komatsu's plans. Instead, Rafael Camara, Leonardo Fornaroli, Ryo Hirakawa, and Jack Doohan are thought to be ahead in the pecking order.
The emergence of Nikola Tsolov and the performances of Lawson and Arvid Lindblad make a Red Bull or Racing Bulls seat a long shot for Tsunoda. Nevertheless, he remains determined to keep racing, wherever that may be.
