As the Ducati Lenovo Team arrives at the Lusail International Circuit for the potential title-deciding weekend, the mood within the garage is one of intense focus and reflection. Team manager Davide Tardozzi has openly admitted that the 2026 campaign of Marc Marquez has been one of the most incredible comebacks in the history of the sport. After trailing by 102 points following his shoulder surgery at Mugello, the Spaniard now stands on the brink of securing his tenth world championship.
Tardozzi emphasized that this success was not merely a stroke of luck, but the result of a profound synergy between Marquez’s unmatched talent and the relentless technical development led by Gigi Dall'Igna. "We learned that nothing is impossible with Marc Marquez," Tardozzi told MotoGP.com. He recalled the difficult mid-season phase, where the team had to work tirelessly to improve the bike's performance when it was arguably not the class of the field.
Despite Marquez currently holding a 44-point lead over Jorge Martin and a 67-point advantage over Marco Bezzecchi, Tardozzi remains cautious. He is acutely aware that the riders from Aprilia Racing are formidable opponents who possess intimate knowledge of Ducati's machinery. "We have the opportunity this weekend, but we know that Martin and Bezzecchi will try hard to be in front of us, so it will not be so easy," he noted.

The unique nature of the Lusail circuit, with its high-intensity floodlights and challenging tire degradation, adds another layer of complexity. However, Marquez’s vast experience in handling championship pressure is considered Ducati's greatest asset. Tardozzi believes the combination of a nine-time World Champion's composure and the team's unwavering belief was the catalyst for their mid-season resurgence.
Mathematically, Marquez needs to outscore the injured Martin by 30 points this weekend to wrap up the title. For Ducati, this is about validating their never-say-die philosophy. The racing world now watches with bated breath to see if the desert night will witness history as Marquez looks to cement his legacy once again.
