A dramatic incident shook the Formula 1 paddock when Lando Norris was involved in a controversial collision with his own teammate, Oscar Piastri, on the final lap of the sprint race at the Marina Bay Circuit. The wet conditions following a torrential downpour created a highly challenging track, making the 100 km short race tense from the very beginning after an early crash involving George Russell.
Throughout the sprint session, which faced a 30-minute delay due to severe weather, both drivers maintained strong consistency holding fourth and fifth places since the opening lap. Their steady pace on the slippery surface highlighted potential points for the team, but the situation shifted dramatically near the finish line as tricky track conditions triggered an aggressive maneuver.
Entering the closing stages of the race, the speed of both McLaren cars increased rapidly, allowing them to close the gap on Charles Leclerc. This high pressure pushed an ambitious overtaking attempt at Turn 5, a crucial corner where available space closed rapidly within a matter of seconds.

Although a gap appeared briefly before the corner, the space evaporated quickly, resulting in a heavy impact between the teammates. The collision forced the Australian driver to retire from the race without finishing, while the reigning world champion managed to recover from a spin to finish eighth before walking back to the paddock.
Addressing the costly incident that ruined a strong team result, the reigning champion immediately issued an apology over the team radio. He admitted fault, stating, 'Yeah, sorry about that. Obviously, I didn't want that to happen, but I thought I was fully alongside. I just ran out of space at the apex.'
