A devastating power unit failure for George Russell effectively extinguished any lingering championship aspirations during the latest round. The sudden mechanical heartbreak on the main straight brought an abrupt end to his race and served an agonizing reminder of past team misfortunes.
Ten years after a similar engine heartbreak befell the team in Malaysia, history cruelly repeated itself within the Mercedes garage. Witnessing the W17 grind to a halt near the pit lane exit, Toto Wolff immediately took responsibility and offered a direct apology over the team radio.
The sheer frustration of the British driver was palpable as he screamed into his radio upon parking the car. This marked his second technical retirement of the current campaign, following a similarly painful DNF earlier in the year at the Canadian Grand Prix.

"George, sorry for this," acknowledged the team principal in a candid moment of remorse. While teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli continues to pull away at the top of the standings, the veteran admitted luck has completely deserted his side of the garage.
