George Russell set the pace at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, topping the only free practice session of the 2026 F1 Singapore Grand Prix weekend. The British driver laid down a marker by finishing two tenths of a second faster than his closest rival under the Southeast Asian daylight in a largely uneventful hour of preparation running.
Unusually for the Singapore race weekend, the opening practice session provided fully representative conditions with the sprint scheduled at the same time of day. Capitalizing on this, Charles Leclerc secured second place for Ferrari, while Lando Norris rounded out the top three for McLaren during a clean opening hour on the challenging street track.
Further down the timesheets, Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri sealed fourth and fifth respectively. Meanwhile, youngster Kimi Antonelli had to settle for seventh after a late mistake on his final push lap derailed what could have been a much stronger timing sequence.

Red Bull faced its own hurdles during the session as Max Verstappen spent half of the hour without team radio communication, complicating his program before ultimately salvaging sixth position in the classification.
Drama struck Audi when Nico Hulkenberg suffered an issue that caused his car to halt on track, briefly bringing out the virtual safety car. The German managed to coast his machine to the pit exit for easy retrieval, allowing the team to investigate the problem ahead of sprint qualifying.
