George Russell dominated the 2026 F1 Dutch Grand Prix sprint race from pole, leading every lap at a dry Zandvoort to secure his third Saturday victory of the season. Meanwhile, championship leader Kimi Antonelli could only manage fourth after starting fifth, missing out on a podium finish.
Russell made a solid getaway, holding off Lando Norris into Turn 1, while Antonelli immediately gained a place with a sweeping move around the outside of Oscar Piastri. The 19-year-old then put pressure on Charles Leclerc, who started on soft tyres compared to the medium compound used by most of the field.
The opening laps were relatively processional, but the gap between the leading pack remained close as drivers conserved their tyres. However, on lap 10, Mercedes allowed Russell to push, and he quickly pulled away from Norris, who reported a lack of rear grip. "I've got no rear," Norris complained, while also having to watch his mirrors for Leclerc and Antonelli.
Leclerc finally made his move on lap 18, diving down the inside of Norris at Turn 1. The Ferrari driver pulled ahead, but Norris managed to defend from Antonelli for the remainder of the race. Zandvoort's tight layout made overtaking difficult, and Norris held on to third place.
Russell crossed the line 1.4 seconds ahead of Leclerc, who claimed his third sprint podium of 2026. Antonelli finished fourth, 0.4s behind Norris, with Piastri fifth and Max Verstappen sixth in front of his home crowd. Lewis Hamilton was seventh, and Pierre Gasly took the final point in eighth.
