Ritomo Miyata Wins Chaotic F2 Sprint at Madrid's Madring

Ritomo Miyata etched his name into the history books by winning the Formula 2 Sprint Race at the Spanish Grand Prix, becoming the first-ever F2 victor at the newly built Madring. The Japanese driver navigated a chaotic race to secure his maiden F2 victory, finishing ahead of Emerson Fittipaldi and Laurens Van Hoepen, who completed the inaugural podium at the 5.4km circuit.

The sprint race was filled with incidents, including collisions and retirements. However, Ritomo Miyata, who started from pole, kept his cool and capitalized on every opportunity. This win marks Hitech Grand Prix's first victory of the 2026 season and certainly boosts Miyata's position in the drivers' standings.

The podium was completed by Emerson Fittipaldi of AIX Racing in second and Laurens Van Hoepen of TRIDENT in third. Noel Leon of Campos Racing had to settle for fourth after applying pressure. Meanwhile, Rafael Camara of Invicta Racing, who had complained about a stressful qualifying session, finished sixth.

This race also marked the debut of Madring as a new circuit on the F2 calendar. Located in Madrid, the track offered a unique challenge for the drivers. The newly constructed circuit immediately tested the drivers' adaptability to a layout they had never experienced before. Miyata's victory will be recorded as the first at this track.

Several drivers suffered misfortune, including Nikola Tsolov, John Bennett, Kush Maini, and Nico Varrone, who all retired with DNFs. Meanwhile, Sebastian Montoya of PREMA Racing finished 17th, three laps down, likely due to technical issues.

With this result, the battle in the drivers' standings intensifies. Miyata, who had not won before, now collects valuable points. However, we await the Feature Race results to see how the standings shift overall. One thing is certain: Miyata's win in Madrid will be remembered as a key moment of the season.

For F2 fans, this sprint race delivered thrilling action. The Madring circuit seems set to become a new favorite with its challenging characteristics. We look forward to the Feature Race tomorrow, which promises even more excitement.
