Formula 2 has officially confirmed the 11 teams that will compete in the championship over the next three-year cycle, including the highly anticipated new entry backed by Lando Norris. The long-awaited announcement came in the lead-up to Formula 1’s Mexico City Grand Prix, marking an early milestone for the star racing driver.
Out of the 11 confirmed outfits, 10 will successfully continue their journey into the next cycle. However, the biggest headline is generated by the brand-new feeder-series venture brought forward by the British driver, introducing a fresh dynamic to the junior single-seater landscape.
The Italian squad LN4 Fusion will officially join the grid to embark on its inaugural championship campaign during the 2027 season. This transition ultimately leads the series to bid farewell to AIX Racing upon the conclusion of the 2026 racing calendar.

This development represents a monumental stride forward for LN4 Fusion, a racing entity founded by the McLaren driver just months ago. Norris aims to utilize this platform to help junior talents achieve their ultimate dreams of reaching Formula 1, equipping them with the vital backing required to climb the competitive motorsport ladder.
Despite the notable shake-up on the grid, F2 will maintain the exact same number of competing drivers. Each of the 11 participating teams will field a standard two-car lineup, preserving the championship's highly competitive 22-car grid structure.
Reflecting upon the sweeping changes for the upcoming era, F2 CEO Bruno Michel shed light on the rigorous decision-making process behind the new three-year team lineup selection.
“Wir received strong interest from teams around the world for this new three-year cycle,” Michel explained, highlighting the immense global appeal of the series.
“Underlining the strength and appeal of our Championship. We have retained ten of our current teams, who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to providing the best possible environment for young drivers to prepare for Formula 1.”
Furthermore, Michel expressed great enthusiasm regarding the arrival of the new contender, noting that the star-studded backing will inject a fresh competitive edge into the paddock.
“I am also pleased to welcome LN4 Fusion to the grid. They will bring considerable expertise, and I am confident they will make a valuable contribution to the Championship,” Michel concluded.
