Loris Reggiani doesn't hide his feelings. In a discussion on 'ZamTube', the former Italian rider admitted he is not pleased to see Marc Marquez heading toward another MotoGP world title in 2026. “I have to swallow my anger because I fear it will end like that,” he said with a tone of resignation.
Reggiani, also known as a commentator, believes that Marquez's performances in recent races have made the title fight increasingly unbalanced. “Looking at the last races, it seems there's nothing to be done. Hope is the last thing to die. However, I still hope Bezzecchi recovers and returns to his early-season form,” he added.
Hope for Bezzecchi and Disappointment with VR46
Reggiani specifically highlighted Marco Bezzecchi, whom he considers talented enough to challenge Marquez. “I still hope Bezzecchi bounces back. He can make us dream until the end of the championship,” he stressed. Unfortunately, the changes in the VR46 lineup for 2027—with Bulega and Aldeguer joining—left Reggiani a bit disappointed. “I expected Di Giannantonio to stay as well, but instead Ogura came in. Although Di Giannantonio is a bit more Italian than Ogura, not by much,” he commented.
According to Reggiani, Marquez has an extraordinary mental advantage. “Marquez is a psychological tank. Compared to the other two, he will have it very easy,” he said. He compared Marquez to Valentino Rossi as the rider with the greatest mental strength he has ever seen. “The others, Martin and Bezzecchi, are not like that. They are good technically, have talent, but what's needed to win championships is the mind, mental strength. Not making mistakes at the wrong moment, and not getting too discouraged when things don't go well. Marquez has proven this year that he can settle for a seventh place, something the other two perhaps don't have yet,” he explained.
Aprilia and Missed Opportunities
Although Marquez seems to dominate, Reggiani reminded that Aprilia can be a threat at certain circuits. “Aprilia on some tracks seems superior. But the two Aprilia riders don't always take advantage when Aprilia is better. Sometimes yes, at the beginning of the season they did. Now we've seen on several occasions that the two Trackhouse Aprilias finished ahead of the two factory Aprilias. There may be technical reasons, but those occasions against someone like Marquez must be seized; if you don't, it means you've lost from the start,” he stressed.
Reggiani also touched on Marquez's human side by recalling his physical struggles. “Now people talk about Marquez as if: ‘Oh my, he only has one arm’. But no one remembers Doohan. Doohan won five world titles after nearly having his leg amputated, and no one remembers a photo of Doohan in shorts?” he said. He believes Marquez's story is often reduced to injury narratives, when in fact there is immense mental toughness and determination.
With these statements, Reggiani shows that rivalry in MotoGP is not just about speed, but also psychology and resilience under pressure. Marquez, with his experience and mentality, still seems to be a benchmark that is difficult for the new generation to shift.
