Max Verstappen voiced his frustration after claiming that the soft-soft-medium tyre strategy deployed during the United States Grand Prix did not match what was agreed beforehand. The star driver was forced to settle for a third-place finish at the Circuit of the Americas, crossing the finish line 17.485 seconds behind the race winner. The team's decision to run him on two sets of soft compounds during the early stages triggered a much higher rate of tyre degradation than anticipated, severely hindering his pace throughout the afternoon.
Addressing the driver's post-race remarks, Laurent Mekies admitted that the team will review the approach internally to understand why the rubber suffered such severe wear. Although he had not heard the specific comments made by the Dutchman immediately after stepping out of the cockpit, Mekies confirmed that electing to use the soft compound for the second stint was the baseline option chosen by the pit wall. Unfortunately, that exact tactical choice exposed unexpected limitations in managing the tyre life across the demanding Austin circuit layout.
Despite the ongoing discussions regarding the two-stop versus one-stop strategies, the team openly conceded that Kimi Antonelli simply held a pace advantage that could not have been overcome by any tactical adjustment. The young Mercedes contender executed a flawless medium-to-hard one-stop strategy that proved to be the ultimate benchmark for pace over the race distance. Management acknowledged that while they typically enjoy a performance cushion when using softer compounds, they struggled immensely to extract that traditional advantage during this particular Grand Prix.

In an effort to maximize their data collection, the team split strategies between their two cars, allowing Isack Hadjar to bring home a solid sixth-place finish. However, the varying strategies ultimately bore little influence on the final outcome at the front of the field. Post-race data analysis indicated that one-stop and two-stop race times were remarkably close on paper, but the severe degradation suffered on the soft tires eliminated any tactical flexibility the team hoped to exploit during the stint.
A thorough data review is now underway as the Milton Keynes outfit looks to resolve its persistent tyre management vulnerabilities ahead of the upcoming rounds. Ensuring that strategic alignment between the pit wall and the cockpit remains airtight will be crucial as the championship battle intensifies. The team remains fully focused on unlocking the hidden performance within their machine to ensure a stronger competitive response at the next Grand Prix weekend.
