Raul Fernandez finally broke his duck. The Aprilia rider claimed his first win of the season at the British Grand Prix on Sunday (7/8), becoming the 12th different winner at Silverstone in the last 12 editions. The victory also underlined Aprilia's dominance across the weekend, following their Sprint Race podium sweep.
Starting from third, Fernandez shot into the lead at the first corner. He built a lead of nearly three seconds by lap five, while behind him a fierce battle raged. Jorge Martin lost ground early but gradually fought back to finish second. Marco Bezzecchi completed the podium, while Marc Marquez had to settle for a distant finish after struggling all race.
The race was marred by incidents. Joan Mir and Alex Rins crashed early, followed by Enea Bastianini, Iker Lecuona, Cal Crutchlow, and Pecco Bagnaia. Even Ai Ogura, impressive in the Sprint, ended up in the gravel. Six riders failed to finish, making the race even more dramatic.
For Aprilia, this weekend was a dream come true. After a perfect sprint race, they again ruled the main event. This win clearly signals that the RS-GP is becoming more competitive. For Marc Marquez, this result is a heavy blow in the title fight, as he lost many points to his rivals.
