Raul Fernandez has received a significant boost to his chances of remaining with Trackhouse Racing for the 2027 MotoGP season after being selected for Aprilia’s 850cc test at Brno. The decision is widely viewed as a strong indication that the Italian manufacturer continues to see the Spaniard as part of its future plans.

The private post-race test at Brno will provide riders with their first opportunity to sample the new 850cc prototypes and Pirelli tyres that will be introduced in 2027. With rider participation strictly limited, most manufacturers have chosen competitors expected to remain within their organisations next season.

At present, only Marco Bezzecchi is officially contracted by Aprilia for 2027. Meanwhile, current team-mate Jorge Martin is expected to leave the manufacturer at the end of the season, with Pecco Bagnaia widely anticipated to take his place.

For the Brno test, Aprilia has chosen to pair Bezzecchi with Fernandez. The decision immediately fueled speculation that Fernandez is the leading candidate to retain his Trackhouse seat when MotoGP enters its new regulatory era.

Aprilia team manager Paolo Bonora confirmed that Fernandez is part of the manufacturer’s planned line-up for the test. Although illness prevented the Spaniard from attending media activities earlier in the weekend, he remains an important element of Aprilia’s future development programme.

Fernandez’s role is particularly noteworthy because he effectively occupies the position left vacant by Martin in the test structure. While several manufacturers have excluded riders departing at the end of the season, Aprilia has instead entrusted Fernandez with a direct role in evaluating its 2027 machinery.

New Trackhouse team manager Francesco Guidotti admitted that Fernandez’s inclusion carries significance. Asked whether the decision was an indication of the rider’s future, Guidotti offered a revealing response.

“Yeah, it means something. We trust in Raul. He has shown his potential, and we have to help him show his full potential more consistently,” Guidotti said.

The 2026 season has been an important one for Fernandez. After delivering Trackhouse’s first MotoGP victory at Phillip Island last year, he added his maiden Sprint victory at Mugello earlier this season. Those results have strengthened his position amid increasing competition for Aprilia-affiliated seats.

Although he lost further points after being caught up in the first-corner incident in Hungary, Fernandez remains one of Aprilia’s most competitive riders this year. He currently sits eighth in the riders’ standings and is the final RS-GP rider inside the championship’s top ten.

With Trackhouse’s 2027 rider line-up reportedly decided and awaiting final confirmation, Fernandez’s selection for the Brno 850cc test represents the clearest indication yet that he is expected to remain a key part of Aprilia’s MotoGP future.
