Fabio Quartararo was dealt a bitter blow at the British Grand Prix. Fabio Quartararo was handed a 16-second post-race penalty at the Silverstone MotoGP on Sunday, costing him the 12th-place finish he had secured as the top Yamaha rider.

The decision came after FIM MotoGP Stewards found a technical infringement related to tyre-pressure data. According to the official statement, Quartararo's tyre-pressure data was not being transmitted correctly throughout the race.

After the race, his motorcycle was summoned to Technical Control for inspection. It was identified that the onboard receiver had not been correctly configured to receive tyre pressure data from the front tyre sensor. The sensor ID had not been recorded in the receiver database, resulting in no actual front tyre data being recorded during the race.

As a result, Quartararo received the same penalty given to riders who fail to meet the specified minimum tyre pressure. The Stewards emphasized that the use of Tyre Air Pressure Sensors (TAPS) on all wheels is mandatory in the MotoGP class, including logging of TAPS data at all times.

This penalty drops Quartararo to 16th and last, meaning he leaves Silverstone without scoring a point. It is a major blow for the Frenchman, who led last year's British MotoGP before retiring.

This technical failure adds to a growing list of disappointments for Yamaha in the 2026 season. Quartararo's improving performances in recent rounds are now tarnished by an incident that could have been avoided. The Yamaha team is expected to conduct an internal review to prevent a recurrence.

With this result, Quartararo's position in the championship standings is increasingly threatened. He must bounce back at the next round to maintain his chances in the midfield battle. This incident also serves as a reminder of the importance of technical details in MotoGP.
