The fierce battle in the Formula 1 midfield has forced Pierre Gasly to take a realistic approach regarding his team's targets this season. The French driver openly admits that securing fifth place in the constructors' world championship is a tall order for the Enstone squad given their recent form.
Currently, Alpine sits sixth in the standings and trails Racing Bulls by 33 points. The Faenza-based squad has surged forward thanks to the superb performances delivered by Liam Lawson, creating a substantial points gap that is far from easy to bridge in the remaining races.
Although the French outfit has shown a notable resurgence in its first year as a Mercedes power unit customer—following a dismal campaign last season where they finished bottom of the standings and 48 points behind Sauber—results have clearly tailed off around the summer break and into the latter stages of the year.

When asked about the team's chances of fighting back into contention for fifth position, the one-time grand prix winner did not shy away from acknowledging the sizable points gap in the current championship standings.
Yeah, it's in the back of our head, obviously, Pierre Gasly told the media. I think objectively, it's a big gap. Looking at the number of points we've scored in the last few weekends, it's definitely going to be a big ask.
Instead of fixating too much on the final constructors' standing, the experienced driver prefers to channel his energy entirely into his own pace and consistency on track in order to maximize points every single Sunday.
But that's why I say I don't want to be too focused on the championship, he explained. I just want to look at my own performance, keep delivering Q3s whenever we have the pace to do it and translate it into points on Sunday.
As the season heads toward its conclusion, the primary objective for the team remains taking one session at a time and extracting the absolute maximum from their package without getting bogged down by distant targets.
