MotoGP 2026: Marquez Leads Standings After San Marino GP

Marc Marquez has taken over the top spot in the 2026 MotoGP standings following the San Marino GP at Misano. His victory, combined with Marco Bezzecchi's crash and Jorge Martin's fifth-place finish, created the perfect cocktail for Marquez to lead the championship for the first time this season. Now, Marc Marquez and Martin are tied on points, but Marquez holds the advantage thanks to five wins compared to Martin's one.

Marquez's performance this season has been stellar. He has achieved four 'doubles' (Sprint and Sunday wins) plus additional Sprint victories. Meanwhile, Martin has been more consistent across both sessions, yet victories have eluded him. On the other hand, Bezzecchi, who was once the closest challenger, now trails by 33 points after failing to finish in Misano. Pressure seemed to affect the Italian, who ultimately crashed and scored no points.

Fabio Di Giannantonio remains stable in fourth, while Pedro Acosta, thanks to today's podium, moves up to fifth, displacing the injured Ai Ogura to sixth. Raul Fernandez is just two points behind Ogura. Alex Marquez also capitalized on his strong result to climb to eighth, pushing Pecco Bagnaia down. Bagnaia, still struggling with Ducati, drops to ninth, followed by Fermin Aldeguer completing the top ten.

Interestingly, if only Sunday races counted, Jorge Martin would lead the standings. In fact, he would have taken the lead today after Bezzecchi's non-finish. Marquez sits third in this 'Sunday' standings, 11 points behind Bezzecchi. Although most of his points come from Sprints, especially early in the season, Marquez is making progress on Sundays. He has now overtaken Di Giannantonio and holds fourth place.

In Moto2, Manu Gonzalez remains at the top of the standings, as does Maximo Quiles in Moto3. Both maintained their leading positions after the Misano round. Competition in the intermediate and lightweight classes is intensifying, but their consistency keeps them ahead for now.

Meanwhile, in the Misano Sprint Race, Marquez surprised Bezzecchi and stole the win. This result further strengthens his position in the riders' standings and provides valuable momentum heading into the next round. With the speed he has shown, Marquez seems ready to defend his lead until the end of the season.
