Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia encountered critical rear tyre temperature issues during the sprint race, forcing Michelin to implement an emergency regulation change at Motegi. The championship supplier officially banned the soft compound option for Sunday's Grand Prix following severe degradation observed in the shorter race.
Motorsport boss Piero Taramasso explained that high track temperatures around 40°C combined with new asphalt and a blistering pace—nine seconds faster than the previous year—created extreme thermal stress on the rear tyres. Marc Marquez claimed victory in the sprint, but the visibly destroyed tyres on several machines highlighted the urgency of Michelin's decision.
