The Brackley-based outfit is not resting on its laurels: eight wins in eleven races and leading both championships are not enough to lower their guard. Instead, Mercedes insists that the toughest part of the season is just beginning after the summer break. They believe the world championship will be decided in the coming weeks, when pressure mounts and every technical update could tip the balance.
Bradley Lord, Deputy Team Principal, called the post-break period the real test. "We're only halfway through the season, but in many ways the hardest part starts now. The races start to run out, the travel schedule gets more intense, and the team spends longer periods away from Brackley. At the same time, we continue to develop the car and introduce upgrades from the other side of the world, which inevitably increases the complexity of the work," he explained. In such a context, Lord stressed the importance of staying calm and disciplined. "Success comes from maintaining calm and discipline. It's not about working frantically, but ensuring every decision is measured and every step forward is planned correctly."
Echoing Lord, Simone Resta, Deputy Technical Director, admitted that Mercedes left points on the table in the first half of the season. However, he emphasized that the level of competition in Formula 1 demands a methodical approach. "We certainly left points on the table in some situations, but we face these challenges in a very determined and methodical way. The goal is not to react emotionally; we need to understand the root cause, introduce the right solution, and keep improving," he said.
Resta also reminded that the championship lead does not mean the job is done. "We have to focus on one race at a time. We cannot be distracted by the standings or the big picture. We need to maximize every weekend, keep improving reliability, bring performance to the car, and extract all available potential. There is still a long way to go." Lord added that being in a position to fight for both titles is exactly why everyone in the team joined Formula 1. "Leading both championships and having the opportunity to turn that advantage into titles is a privilege, but also a challenge that excites the whole team."
Closing the statements, Resta referenced F1's recent history as a warning against over-optimism. "Championships always change after the summer break. Pressure increases for those ahead and those chasing. It is precisely at this moment that the strength and resilience of an organization is measured. This is the phase of the season where titles are won or lost." That belief perfectly sums up Mercedes' mindset: the advantage gained so far is only the starting point, and the real battle is yet to begin.
