Max Verstappen once again showcased his prowess, not on an F1 circuit, but in the unique 'Max vs 100' challenge at Silverstone. The four-time world champion overtook 100 rivals in just 35 minutes, specifically 14 laps, to claim his first victory of 2026.
Organized by his Red Bull team, the race pitted Verstappen against a diverse field including content creators, Red Bull athletes, fans, and even journalists. Starting 101st, the Dutchman immediately went on the attack, causing chaos on the first lap. He even had to cut across the grass to avoid an incident that wiped out around 30 karters and triggered a full course yellow. By the end of lap one, he was up to 37th, and it took him only six laps to break into the top 10.
Verstappen's speed was simply astounding. He was lapping more than three seconds faster than his rivals. There was a tense moment when he launched over a kerb and lost part of his kart. "I think I lost my GoPro," he laughed over the radio.
Seeing Verstappen's dominance, the race director granted a 'Chucky Lap' to the top four, allowing them to cut the track. Verstappen himself was set to get his own 'Chucky Lap' after lap 15, but didn't need it as he had already surged ahead.
In the end, only Lewis Osler, a Red Bull Powertrains technician, and Dutch F1 journalist Jacky Martens remained. However, an audacious dive-bomb from Verstappen sealed the win. "Oh that was simply lovely, wasn't it!" he exclaimed over the radio after crossing the finish line. "I think this was my best win yet!"
In his post-race interview, Verstappen revealed his tactics. "Sometimes a little bit of hopping out of the corner at very low speed helps you accelerate, especially at the start. My first lap was quite incredible. There was a lot happening and a few karts got stuck. I managed to be on the outside, so I didn't get stuck. That made me get like 60 people in the first lap," he explained.
This victory was a fun moment for Verstappen amid preparations for the 2026 F1 season. Despite it being just a karting race, his enthusiasm and competitive spirit were on full display. Red Bull successfully hosted this entertaining and unique event.
