Max Verstappen has criticized Red Bull's ongoing radio reliability issues following a frustrating performance at the 2026 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in Austin. The four-time world champion crossed the finish line in third place behind race winner Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Charles Leclerc on Sunday, but his race was heavily compromised by continuous technical gremlins.
Alongside expressing discontent with the team's strategic decisions during the grand prix, Verstappen lamented persistent radio failures that severely hindered communication with the pit wall. This marked the second consecutive race where the Dutchman suffered team radio breakdowns, following similar communication blackouts during the previous Singapore Grand Prix.
The reigning world champion pointed out that the technical glitch has plagued their garage consistently throughout the entire 2026 Formula 1 season. "It’s not the second time. It’s already, I don’t know how many times this year," Verstappen told media outlets in the paddock after the race.

"Maybe we should just start communicating in sign language. It’s probably cheaper as well. It’s a disaster. Yeah, it’s a disaster. It’s really frustrating, to be honest," he added, highlighting the severity of the communication breakdown inside his cockpit.
The weekend in Austin also marked a transitional phase as Tom Hart stepped in as Verstappen’s race engineer for the entire event, covering for Gianpiero Lambiase who is set to depart for McLaren. Establishing a seamless working relationship proved challenging amidst the backdrop of recurring hardware failures that prevented optimal engineering feedback.
Verstappen was not the only Red Bull driver affected at COTA, as rookie teammate Isack Hadjar revealed he encountered identical radio issues during his grand prix stint. Hadjar admitted to lacking proper radio coverage, which resulted in missing crucial updates from the pit lane and leaving the garage with an incorrect engine map.
Adding to his list of frustrations, Verstappen also addressed another recurring weakness that has hampered his campaign throughout the year—subpar starts off the line. Although he managed to hold his grid position when the lights went out, he remained openly critical of the ongoing mechanical traits of his car.
