Max Verstappen has yet to confirm his future in Formula 1 for the 2027 season. Although his contract with Red Bull still binds him until the end of 2028, rumors about performance clauses that could allow him to leave early continue to swirl in the paddock.

Austrian F1 legend Gerhard Berger believes talks with other teams are ongoing. "At the moment, there's a lot of gossip, a lot of discussions going on," he told F1. "Of course, Max needs to see if there is any possibility for him to continue to win the World Championship, already next year." Berger named three teams as candidates: McLaren, Mercedes, and Red Bull itself.

Verstappen's dissatisfaction with Red Bull's car performance this season is the main trigger. The car he drives often has balance issues, and Red Bull is the only team in the top four that has yet to take a grand prix victory.

Berger suggested postponing any big decision until after the summer break. "We will see if Red Bull have fixed their reliability issues," he said. "Teams will bring modifications, and we will know who is the frontrunner in the second half of the season."

What is clear is that fans hope for closer competition next season. "What we want is three or four teams on a similar level, so everybody has a chance to win," Berger concluded.
