Max Verstappen has emerged as the fan-backed favourite to win the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix 2026, despite starting from second on the grid behind pole-sitter Kimi Antonelli.
The Red Bull Racing driver is seen as a key contender to end Mercedes’ perfect run, with the team having secured all three grand prix victories so far this season.

Wet weather is expected to play a decisive role at the Miami International Autodrome, introducing a major unknown under the 2026 regulations. With limited wet running data available, performance variables are significantly widened, potentially favouring drivers with strong adaptability such as Verstappen.

In a fan poll, Verstappen received 34 percent of the vote as the predicted winner. Antonelli followed with 24 percent, while Lewis Hamilton was ranked third with 14 percent support.
From a technical perspective, wet conditions will emphasise traction control, braking stability, and tyre temperature management. Red Bull may benefit from its car’s responsiveness in direction changes, while Mercedes will aim to maintain consistency in an environment that remains largely untested.
With competitive margins tightening and weather uncertainty increasing, the Miami Grand Prix could mark a turning point in the championship battle. Verstappen has the opportunity to shift momentum, while Mercedes seeks to extend its early-season dominance heading into the next round of the 2026 campaign.
