Tension boiled over in the Red Bull camp during the second practice session at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson collided on track. Drama struck early in the hour as the former teammates found themselves wheel-to-wheel through a high-stakes sequence of corners.
The flashpoint occurred when Verstappen was positioned on the outside of Turn 13, with Lawson ultimately forcing him off the racing line. This left the Dutchman with no choice but to ride aggressively over the kerbs at Turn 14, where contact between the two cars became inevitable.
The coming-together inflicted notable bargeboard damage on Verstappen’s RB22, heavily compromising the remainder of his running during an already difficult practice hour. The impact scattered debris across the tarmac, triggering a brief red flag stoppage to clear the racing surface safely.

Following the session, race stewards summoned both drivers before handing each a one-place grid penalty for Sunday's Grand Prix. In their official statement, the governing body stressed that the behavior displayed by both competitors was completely unacceptable following prior warnings.
Verstappen did not hold back in his post-session remarks, openly questioning his rival's judgment given the ongoing uncertainties surrounding his future in the sport. Read our in-depth analysis of the penalty fallout and weekend schedule right here.
