Martin Unfazed by Yamaha's Slump: Decision More Calculated

Jorge Martin insists his move to Yamaha was not an impulsive decision. In fact, he says this choice was far more considered than his hasty switch to Aprilia two years ago. The Spanish rider is ready to face criticism if Yamaha's performance doesn't improve soon.

“People can talk next year or in two years,” Jorge Martin told DAZN, as quoted by FormulaPassion. “In life, you have to make certain decisions, and this one to go to Yamaha is more mature than the rushed decision to go to Aprilia two years ago.”

Concerns are indeed justified. Yamaha is struggling in MotoGP 2026. They are finding it hard to replicate last season's impressive performances, especially in qualifying sessions. The highly anticipated V4 engine project has yet to fully deliver on track.

This situation is compounded by the departure of Fabio Quartararo after eight years with the Iwata factory team. The 2021 world champion chose to leave, leaving Yamaha to rebuild its competitive foundation without one of its top riders.

Yamaha will now begin a new era with Martin and Ai Ogura. Despite the obvious pressure, Martin feels calm. He knows that long-term projects take time, and he trusts the process currently underway.

“I always make the best decisions for me and my family. We'll see what happens next year. Besides, two years ago I was also leading the championship standings while Aprilia was a mess,” he added, offering perspective that situations can change quickly.

Martin's decision is bold, but he doesn't see it as a gamble. For him, it's a logical, well-calculated step. Now, only time will tell if this choice proves right or becomes a boomerang.
