Marc Marquez has once again become the center of attention after a gym photo revealing the condition of his right arm and shoulder circulated widely. The injury has forced him to undergo seven surgeries, the most recent in May, leaving him to ride with what his surgeon described as “one and a half arms”. His on-track rivals have now spoken out.
Current championship leader Jorge Martin admitted he saw the photo on Instagram. “Yeah, I saw it on Instagram. For sure you see the impact [on his body] in the image,” he said. Martin himself suffered repeated injuries and competed in just seven Grands Prix during a gruelling 2025 season. “But our sport is like this. We all have different [injuries]. I don’t know exactly what Marc has, or how much it is affecting him. I think we all have pain—well, maybe not all, but speaking for myself, I have some issues. But this is our sport. We love it even with these things, and that’s why we continue fighting,” he added.
Echoing Martin, Marco Bezzecchi also emphasised that injury is an inherent risk in MotoGP. The Italian rider himself has missed races this season through injury, requiring surgery on his collarbone and knee after an accident at July’s German Grand Prix. “Unfortunately, this is MotoGP. It’s what we love to do, but our sport is dangerous, so everybody gets hurt. We all know the condition of Marc and his talent to do what he does with the injuries. But in the end it’s our sport. So we accept it,” Bezzecchi said.
History notes that the relationship between Bezzecchi and Marquez has been tense. Contact between the two on the opening lap at Mandalika last year left Marquez needing surgery and out of the final rounds of the season. The accident also dislodged a bone fragment and screws, requiring a follow-up operation to treat radial nerve issues in May. That incident became one of the most defining moments in Marquez’s injury saga.
For Marquez, injuries are nothing new. Throughout his career, he has repeatedly bounced back from setbacks, but the latest surgery in May was the most crucial. His surgeon described the condition of Marquez’s right arm as “one and a half arms”, a metaphor illustrating the limited physical function remaining. Nevertheless, Marquez remains competitive, a testament to his world-class ability.
The reactions from Martin and Bezzecchi reflect solidarity among the riders. They understand that behind the adrenaline and speed, MotoGP demands extreme physical sacrifice. Each rider has their own injury story, yet they choose to keep going because of their love for racing. “We all have pain, but we keep fighting,” Martin asserted.
With the season still long, Marquez’s condition will remain a focal point. His ability to manage pain and perform at the highest level will be a key factor in the title fight. Meanwhile, Martin and Bezzecchi will continue to be his main challengers, and any injury could alter the championship dynamics.
