There has been a major shift around Marc Marquez over the years. The rider from Cervera has always been respected for his speed, titles, and extraordinary competitive ability. But at one stage of his career, especially following his clash with Valentino Rossi, his image was inevitably tied to a rivalry that went beyond the track. Ten years later, the perception seems very different.
Not because Marquez has stopped being aggressive when needed. He remains the same rider who brakes to the limit and gives no quarter to his rivals. The difference, perhaps, lies in what happens when he gets off the bike. His recent years have shown numerous examples of respectful relationships with riders he has directly competed against for wins and championships.
The best example from that generation was Andrea Dovizioso. Both were involved in some of MotoGP's most spectacular battles, especially during 2017 and 2018, but they never turned their sporting rivalry into a personal war. Marquez himself described his relationship with the Italian as good and based on respect, even when they fought for every position on track.
From Clashes to Respect
Marco Bezzecchi has had several tense moments with Marquez. One of the most serious came in 2025, when both were involved in a crash in Indonesia that left Marquez injured in the same arm that had caused him so many problems throughout his career. Bezzecchi apologized, and the Spaniard accepted it as a racing incident.
But the evolution of that relationship is even more striking. In 2026, when Bezzecchi suffered another injury, this time from a crash at Sachsenring, Marquez publicly came to his defense and rejected any talk of 'karma' or celebration over a rival's misfortune. With Jorge Martin, there has been an even more surprising turn. The two have had their clashes, and Martin has not always hidden his differences with Marquez. However, when the Madrid native faced one of his toughest physical moments, he turned precisely to the Ducati rider for advice.
This shift marks a new chapter in Marquez's career. If he was once seen as a controversial figure who sparked debate, he is now better known as a respected rival. This transformation does not come from a change in his racing style, which remains aggressive, but from maturity and his ability to build healthier relationships with his peers. In an era where rivalries often heat up off track, Marquez shows that respect is key to lasting at the top.
