Marco Bezzecchi wasted no time making an impact during the opening sessions at the Sepang International Circuit. Despite never having secured a podium finish at the tropical Malaysian venue, the Italian rider consistently featured among the fastest contenders in the premier class. Only championship leader Marc Marquez managed a faster lap time on Friday morning, while KTM rider Pedro Acosta matched his exact time down to the thousandth of a second.

The one-hour practice session yielded similarly strong promising results. Running near the sharp end of the field behind Fabio Di Giannantonio and ahead of Marquez, Bezzecchi eventually slipped down to sixth position when the rest of the grid strapped on soft tires for final time attacks. Nevertheless, the result was never in serious jeopardy of missing out on an automatic Q2 qualification spot.

This performance brought a wave of relief, especially given his struggles last season where he lagged nearly a second off the pace, missed Q2, and fought from fourteenth on the grid to finish eleventh. Drawing comparisons to that frustrating weekend, the current progress displayed by the Aprilia factory machine represents a massive leap forward.

"Vergleichen wir das mit dem letzten Jahr, dann muss ich extrem happy sein. Aber so oder so, war der Auftakt jetzt in der Hinsicht positiv, es lief sehr solide. Es ist ein klarer Schritt gelungen," Bezzecchi noted regarding his solid start. He further added that despite Marquez holding a slight advantage and Alex Marquez showing great speed, his overall race pace remains competitive.

Addressing Aprilia's historical struggles at Sepang, Bezzecchi pointed out that the layout itself is less of an issue compared to the low grip-level conditions. He explained that these specific asphalt traits make it tougher to fully exploit the strong characteristics of their racing machine.
