Leonardo Escorpioni and Bart Harrison Lock In Indy Nxt Plans for 2027

Leonardo Escorpioni and Bart Harrison have officially locked in their racing plans to compete in the Indy Nxt championship for the upcoming 2027 season. Escorpioni is set to drive for HMD Motorsports, while Harrison will join forces with AJ Foyt Racing as both young talents make crucial steps on the motorsport ladder.

Escorpioni makes his graduation following a stellar run in the junior categories, having clinched the fifth-tier USF Juniors title just a year prior with an impressive tally of six race victories. The 18-year-old Brazilian started 2026 by stepping up to USF2000 before quickly progressing into the USF Pro 2000 championship.

During his campaign in the third tier on the IndyCar support bill, the Turn 3 Motorsport driver claimed five wins, four additional podium finishes, and four pole positions. Although his championship bid was ultimately derailed by missing a crucial round in Canada, his raw pace clearly caught the attention of top-tier teams.

"I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to race in Indy Nxt with HMD Motorsports," said Escorpioni. "After working with the team as its junior driver throughout the 2026 season, I feel I have a strong foundation heading into my debut year."

HMD team president Mike Maurini noted that Escorpioni already possesses a solid understanding of the team's personnel and operational processes since joining their driver development programme back in June. This familiarity is expected to smooth his transition into the highly competitive Indy Nxt grid.

Meanwhile, Dutch driver Niels Koolen is also confirmed to compete in the 2027 season, joining the Abel Motorsports line-up. With intense post-season testing already underway at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, the field is shaping up for an electrifying year of competitive open-wheel racing.
