A challenging start unfolded for Jorge Martin during the opening day of the Malaysian Grand Prix weekend. After successfully passing the medical checks conducted by the official MotoGP medical team in the morning, the Aprilia star took to the track for FP1. Although he managed to complete twelve timed laps, the physical limitations forced the rider known as the Martinator to carefully manage his energy, completing no more than two consecutive fast laps without a break.

The situation escalated during the afternoon practice session when the Spanish rider gave his crew a severe scare. Following a massive slide, he only narrowly avoided a heavy crash that could have heavily compromised his physical condition. Just minutes after returning to the pit lane, discussions with race doctor Dr. Angel Charte led to the definitive decision to withdraw from the remainder of the afternoon time attack session.

Confirming the withdrawal, the team released an official statement explaining that the step was taken to allow the rider maximum recovery time throughout the weekend. Team Manager Paolo Bonora added that it was a joint decision not to push further on Friday, emphasizing that forcing a time attack under the current circumstances carried an unacceptably high risk for the championship contender.

Addressing the near-crash incident, Bonora clarified that the choice was entirely rational and based strictly on medical assessments rather than the frightening moment on track. Consequently, all public media obligations for the Martinator were canceled. His participation in the upcoming main races will be evaluated during Saturday morning's FP2 session, where lap times will determine if it is safe for him to continue competing this weekend.

In contrast, championship leader Marc Marquez enjoyed a much more productive yet eventful opening day, topping multiple sessions before suffering a harmless tumble during the time attack. As the weekend progresses, all eyes remain fixed on the physical recovery of the Aprilia rider and how the competitive grid will shape up for the upcoming sprint and Grand Prix races.
