Marc Marquez has once again etched his name into the record books. With victory at the Aragon Grand Prix, the Ducati rider now boasts an unprecedented 130 premier-class podiums—a tally no other Spanish rider has ever come close to.
The feat is made even more remarkable when you consider the legends he has left behind. Jorge Lorenzo, with 114 podiums, and Dani Pedrosa, with 112, now trail in his wake. Even Alex Criville, who carried Spanish pride during the 500cc era, managed only 51 podium finishes throughout his career.
A Long Road to 130 Podiums
This record didn't materialize overnight. Marquez began his Grand Prix journey in 2008 in the 125cc class. Within three years, he was a world champion. After conquering Moto2 in 2012, he stepped up to MotoGP and immediately shook the premier class, becoming the youngest champion in history aboard a Honda.
With the Japanese manufacturer, he secured six MotoGP titles between 2013 and 2019. A severe injury in 2020 temporarily halted his seemingly unstoppable momentum. However, his move to Ducati in 2024 opened a new chapter. In 2025, he clinched his ninth world title, and now in 2026, despite lingering physical limitations, he continues to add to his podium tally.
In Aragon, the weekend was flawless. He won both the sprint and the main race, securing that 130th podium. Jorge Lorenzo, who for years held the record for most podiums by a Spanish rider in MotoGP, was surpassed by Marquez in 2025, and the gap is only widening.
The Other Spanish Greats
Behind the top three, Dani Pedrosa remains an iconic figure. Though he retired from full-time racing in 2018, he now serves as a test rider for KTM and occasionally appears as a wildcard. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin—currently leading the championship—is still chasing, with 38 podiums. Maverick Vinales follows with 35, ahead of Sete Gibernau (30) and Carlos Checa (24).
The 130-podium milestone is more than just a number. It reflects rare consistency, resilience, and adaptability. When many doubted him after injury, Marquez proved he still belongs at the pinnacle of the sport.
