Marc Marquez has insisted that his decision to continue racing in MotoGP is his own, not due to pressure from anyone else. The nine-time world champion also said he wasn't angry when Ducati broadcast his comments about his right arm being uncontrollable at Silverstone, as he believes it's content fans enjoy.
It all started with the Inside Ducati video from Silverstone, where Marquez was heard saying, "I was at risk of crashing. I had no control over my right arm." Afterwards, he decided to post a gym photo showing muscle loss and scarring on his right arm. This move surprised many, as Marquez is usually very private about any sign of weakness.
His surgeon, Samuel Antuna, later explained in detail to El Periodico: "Marquez's biggest problem is that he has lost bicep strength after the Indonesia 2025 accident. The expression that Marc is currently riding with one and a half arms accurately reflects the current state of his right arm." The injury has led to seven surgeries, the most recent in May.
Nevertheless, Marquez emphasised that the decision to keep racing is purely his own. "It's my decision to continue. No one put a knife to my throat and said, 'You must race!'," he said. He added that he still feels competitive and enjoys his passion. "With what I have, I try to do my maximum every weekend," he stated.
The Spaniard also acknowledges that competition in MotoGP is getting tougher. "The young riders and those coming are all very fast. So I need to work more to achieve what I want, which is to win. Before it was like natural instinct," he explained. However, he stressed that he still enjoys racing and will keep pushing.
This season, Marquez has taken seven wins and could mathematically take the championship lead for the first time this year from Jorge Martin at Misano this weekend. With a competitive performance despite his physical condition, Marquez proves that his determination and experience remain his main weapons.
Marquez's decision to be open about his injury has also drawn reactions from fellow riders like Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi. They acknowledge that what Marquez did is rare in the paddock and shows the human side of a champion. Regardless, Marquez remains focused on racing and is determined to keep competing at the highest level.
