Marc Marquez has finally spoken out about the viral photo of his right arm injury that he posted on social media last week. In a press conference ahead of the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano, the Repsol Honda rider explained that his intention was to put an end to speculation about his physical condition.
"I posted that photo because I believed it's the best way to stop talking about my arm," Marquez said on Thursday. "What I've learned in my career is that when there are question marks, rumours, speculation, if you are honest, everything is easier."
The photo showed the extent of the damage to Marquez's right arm after multiple serious injuries over the years. The post came just weeks after Ducati released a video from the British Grand Prix where Marquez told his team he had "no control" over his right arm during the Silverstone race.
Marquez's fitness has been a major talking point throughout the 2026 season. He is still battling the aftereffects of the complicated shoulder injury he suffered in Indonesia last year. In a recent interview, his surgeon, Dr. Samuel Antuna, revealed that the bicep muscle in Marquez's right arm is currently only at 50% capacity. The surgeon also admitted that the Indonesia injury "changed everything" in how Marquez is able to ride compared to 2025.
The move drew reactions from other riders. His younger brother, Alex Marquez, supported the decision. "I think that [posted this picture] more to not speculate about his physical condition," Alex said. "But I think a picture is better than a thousand words. So just to close that thing, if he's OK, if he's not OK and all that. He showed the reality, and from that moment, I think, as a rider, give to you the calm to just forget that problem that he's living day by day and just focus on winning the championship."
Despite his physical condition, Marquez's on-track performance remains impressive. He won both races last time out at Aragon, moving him into second in the standings. He is now just 19 points behind championship leader Jorge Martin. With the season still long, the title fight is heating up.
Marquez's decision to be open about his condition shows the maturity of a seven-time world champion. He does not want speculation to distract his focus on chasing the title. "I knew, and I know what I have. But like this, you already have the picture; you already have the interview from my doctor, and the doctor is the correct person to explain what is going on with my body," he added. "And like this, I'm fully focused on trying to fight with what I have in this amazing championship."
The San Marino Grand Prix at Misano will be the next test for Marquez. Will he be able to overcome his physical limitations and continue to pressure Martin at the top of the standings? One thing is clear: Marquez has proven that openness and honesty are powerful weapons in facing the pressures of the premier class of motorcycle racing.
