A maximum points-scoring result was successfully secured by Liam Lawson during the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. The New Zealand driver admitted that finishing in ninth place was the absolute best outcome possible for the Racing Bulls team once all cars from the four powerhouse constructors safely reached the chequered flag.
"When everyone finishes, for us it’s a P9 or a P10. That’s sort of the best we can do," Lawson told F1 TV, emphasizing that the team executed their strategy brilliantly and delivered a strong weekend performance overall.
During the race, Lawson briefly held a position ahead of Oscar Piastri during the pit stop phase before the McLaren driver overtook him for eighth on lap 23. This crucial result lifted Lawson to 77 points, extending his solid hold on ninth place in the Drivers' World Championship standings.
The points haul also handed Racing Bulls a net constructors' advantage over Alpine, pulling further ahead in fifth place as Pierre Gasly settled for tenth. With five rounds remaining on the calendar, Lawson expressed high optimism heading into upcoming challenges at unique tracks like Mexico and Brazil.
Meanwhile, his rookie teammate endured a more frustrating afternoon finishing 12th after gambling on an alternative two-stop strategy that ultimately hindered his progress through heavy midfield traffic.
