Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari Formula 1 driver and seven-time world champion, has once again touched the hearts of fans with an emotional social media post remembering his beloved dog, Roscoe, one year after his passing.
Roscoe, an English Bulldog who was a constant presence in the F1 paddock, died on 28 September 2025 at the age of 12 after being hospitalised with pneumonia. His condition deteriorated during a sedative procedure, his heart stopped, and he was placed in a coma. Hamilton described the decision to put Roscoe to sleep as the "hardest decision of [his] life."
A year on, Lewis Hamilton wrote: "It’s been one year since Roscoe’s passing. Being without my best friend has been hard, and there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t wish he was with me. I think of him and Coco every day, and as sad as I am to not have them, I’m so grateful for the time I shared with them and to have had them in my life. They’ve been there for some of the happiest times of my life. Today, I’m looking through these photos and videos, laughing and smiling so big, remembering those moments. So many of you have been through this and reached out with love and support. It means so much to me, knowing how much Roscoe was loved. Rest’s in peace buddy’s, love you always.”
Roscoe was more than just a pet; he was a paddock icon. His presence was eagerly anticipated by fans at every Grand Prix. His final appearance came at the 2025 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, where he faithfully accompanied Hamilton despite the less-than-ideal weather.
After Roscoe’s passing, Hamilton thanked fans for the overwhelming support from around the world. "It's been amazing to see the support from so many people around the world, and overwhelming just to see how much Roscoe touched people and meant to people," he said ahead of last year’s Singapore Grand Prix. "The kind messages that I've received have been really uplifting, so I'm really grateful for that. Anyone out there that knows what it's like to lose a pet, you know how painful it is. I read somewhere that grief is the last act of love, and I'm definitely feeling that."
Hamilton, who now races for Ferrari, is known for his love of animals. Roscoe was often seen alongside him at various circuits, symbolising affection amid the intense competition of F1. Roscoe’s loss left a deep wound but also revealed the human side of a world champion.
This story reminds us that behind the helmet and the speed, drivers are human beings with strong emotional bonds. Fan support has been a source of comfort for Hamilton, who continues to remember Roscoe and Coco with love. Rest in peace, Roscoe.
