Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Lewis Hamilton was seen reacting in frustration towards Franco Colapinto following their opening-lap collision at the 2026 Miami Grand Prix, an incident that significantly impacted his race.
The clash occurred at Turn 11 as the Ferrari driver attempted an outside overtake, while the Alpine driver defended his position. Contact between the two resulted in notable aerodynamic damage to Hamilton’s car.
From a technical perspective, the damage reduced overall downforce, costing several tenths of a second per lap. This affected grip levels and car stability, particularly through high-speed sections and mid-corner phases.

Hamilton’s reaction followed the incident, reflecting frustration with the wheel-to-wheel exchange. However, such situations are common at circuits like Miami, where overtaking zones carry a high risk of contact.
Despite the early damage, Hamilton finished seventh on the road before being promoted to sixth after a penalty for Charles Leclerc, demonstrating recovery under compromised conditions.
Meanwhile, Colapinto secured a career-best result, outperforming team-mate Pierre Gasly and contributing valuable points to Alpine’s constructors’ campaign.
The incident highlights the importance of risk management during the opening laps, particularly with heavy fuel loads and limited margins for error. Both teams are expected to review the situation ahead of the next round.
