Charles Leclerc has confirmed he is fully fit to race in this weekend's Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix following his massive crash at Monza. The Ferrari driver lost control of his car at the Parabolica on lap two of the Italian Grand Prix, sparking concerns over potential injuries.
Although he appeared winded from the violent impact, Leclerc emerged unscathed and was cleared after precautionary checks at the circuit's medical centre. He experienced blurred vision and neck pain, but further health checks have deemed him fit to compete in Madrid.
“I will be 100 percent fine. It was only right after the crash that felt a bit strange and I was a little dizzy, but very quickly from Monday afternoon I felt better,” Leclerc said on Thursday. “I had quite a few treatments for the neck because that's where most of the shock went, and I'm feeling good now, so I'm ready for this weekend.”
When asked if he had any doubts about driving in Spain, Leclerc replied: “No, not to that extent. I felt the tightness and probably a bit of pain in the neck on Monday. But in terms of vision, it was very short. Right after I got into the car, one eye was maybe not working properly, but then it was fully fine after a few seconds. So I was not too worried.”
The Monza incident added to the challenges Leclerc and Ferrari have faced this season. Besides the solo crash, he also clashed with teammate Lewis Hamilton on the opening lap. However, Leclerc revealed that the two drivers have cleared the air after discussions following a nightmare home race for the team.
“We talked and everything is clear. That incident is behind us, and now our focus is on bouncing back in Spain,” he added. This statement highlights Leclerc's maturity in managing team dynamics under pressure.
With his physical condition recovered, Leclerc is determined to secure a strong result at the Madrid circuit to restore Ferrari's momentum in the constructors' standings. He acknowledges that the Spanish GP is a crucial moment to prove that his team can still compete at the front.
Leclerc's readiness also comes as a boost for Ferrari, who are striving to overcome inconsistent performance. His full return will provide moral support and a more solid strategy for the remainder of the season.
