Charles Leclerc has made it clear that trying to replicate Max Verstappen's success at Red Bull would be a "mistake." The Monegasque driver prefers to focus on Ferrari's internal process as he chases his first world championship title.

The rivalry between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc has been long-standing, but the results have been lopsided. Verstappen has secured four world titles and 71 race wins with Red Bull, while Leclerc has managed just nine victories in eight seasons with Ferrari.

Ahead of his home race at Zandvoort, Verstappen confirmed he will stay with Red Bull until the end of the 2030 season. However, Leclerc refuses to use his rival as a role model. "Max has obviously had an incredible career so far and has won four world championships. I haven't yet, but I think every situation is different," Leclerc told media including RacingNews365.

"It would be a mistake for me to follow in the footsteps of what Max has done. I also have no idea what Max is doing inside the team to get this success. It would be purely trying and imagining what it takes," he added.

Leclerc prefers to concentrate on his own development within the team. "Rather than doing that, I prefer to focus on my own situation in the team, trying to focus on the process," he stated.

This season, Leclerc has only one win and has often been outpaced by teammate Lewis Hamilton. Despite this, he remains optimistic about Ferrari's future. "We have a very clear view of where we are as a team and what we can do to improve. Our weaknesses are against Mercedes, who are the favorites at the moment," he explained.

With thorough preparation for the new car, Leclerc is confident for the second half of the season. "We've been working very well over the past few months to prepare for this new car. I know what the plan is for the next few months, and that makes me optimistic," he concluded.
