Ott Tanak remains closely linked to the future plans of Toyota Gazoo Racing as the team prepares for the introduction of the new WRC regulations in 2027. While no decision has been made, team principal Jari-Matti Latvala acknowledged that further cooperation remains a possibility.
The 2019 World Rally champion stepped away from full-time competition at the end of last season. However, his name returned to the spotlight after he was seen assisting Toyota's development programme for its 2027-specification rally car.
Latvala explained that Tanak's involvement in testing was intended to provide the team with an external perspective during a crucial phase of development.

"He came to test the car, and the reason we invited him was to get an outside perspective."
"Another reason is that we have had a lot of testing running alongside rallies. While our own drivers have been carrying out Rally1 tests for upcoming events, Ott has had the time available to help us with this work."
Tanak's role in the development programme has inevitably fuelled speculation about a possible competitive return. However, Latvala stressed that there have been no detailed discussions regarding the Estonian's plans for next season.
"All I can say is that we'll see what happens later on. At this stage, I don't know what his thoughts are regarding next season."
Latvala also indicated that the situation is linked to the future of Sebastien Ogier. Toyota could potentially find itself in the enviable position of negotiating with two world champions as it finalises its plans for the new era.
"At some point we will certainly have discussions, but a lot also depends on what Sebastien Ogier decides to do next year."
"We're waiting to see what decision he makes, and then we'll look at Ott's situation and whether he wants to drive. If he wants to compete, I'm sure he'll let us know."
With the new WRC regulations approaching, Toyota continues to evaluate all available options. Tanak has already become part of the manufacturer's development effort, and although no decision has been made, the prospect of a reunion between Toyota and the 2019 world champion remains very much alive.
