Kimi Antonelli made history at the 2025 Italian Grand Prix. Starting from 19th on the grid, the Mercedes driver delivered a stellar performance, overtaking rivals one by one to finish first in front of his home crowd. This victory also cements his name as the first Italian to win at home in 60 years.
A poor start due to a power unit change penalty did not dampen Antonelli's spirits. He quickly climbed to sixth place within just a few laps. After the restart following Charles Leclerc's crash, Antonelli grew more confident and began engaging in a fierce battle with his teammate, George Russell.
The crucial moment came at the end of the race. With fresher medium tires, Antonelli took advantage of a virtual safety car to pit and chase down Russell, who was on older hard tires. A tense duel at the first chicane saw Antonelli run wide, but he didn't give up. On the following lap, he managed to take the lead and never looked back.

"I didn't expect it, unbelievable," Antonelli said after the race. "It's a dream come true. I'm so happy and could never have imagined being here today." This win is his seventh of the season and underscores his emergence as a title contender.
With this result, Antonelli solidifies his position at the top of the standings, extending his lead over Max Verstappen, who had to settle for third place. The championship battle is heating up, and Antonelli has proven he is a serious threat to the more experienced drivers.
