The harsh realities of racing at Mount Panorama left both scars and valuable lessons for young driver Kai Allen. The 21-year-old managed to sneak into the final 2025 Finals Series spot thanks to an eighth-place finish and a fortuitous last-lap pass by Broc Feeney that bumped out Andre Heimgartner. However, Allen’s day could have yielded a much stronger result if not for a series of heavy hits from seasoned championship campaigners.

The clashes included a severe punt from behind by Brodie Kostecki, alongside subsequent knocks from Will Brown and Jack Le Brocq that pushed the Grove Mustang off the racing surface. This tumultuous experience triggered a significant shift in Allen's approach, prompting him to adopt a more aggressive driving style that eventually propelled him to the Grand Final and established him as a dual race winner this year.

Speaking to Speedcafe, Kai Allen admitted his deep frustration coming out of Bathurst last year. "I was quite upset coming out of Bathurst, the way that the driving sort of was," Allen stated, adding that for the level of experience and talent involved, ruining his race in that manner was quite poor. Though acknowledging the tricky, wet conditions, he felt some moves were quite unintelligent and ultimately fired him up for the finals.

This evolving mindset has seen Kai Allen go wheel-to-wheel with the championship's heavyweights this season, highlighted by a memorable, uncompromising battle against Brodie Kostecki in Perth. A round later, a tough challenge involving Chaz Mostert at Queensland Raceway resulted in a time penalty that stripped the Penrite Mustang driver of a podium finish, proving he is willing to push the limits.

Heading into this weekend's Bathurst 1000, Kai Allen teams up with Tim Slade following their impressive second-place finish at The Bend 500. Armed with newfound maturity and a sharper competitive edge, the young charger continues his steep learning curve in Australia's premier motorsport category.
