Jorge Martin has decided to travel to Malaysia with a clear objective that goes far beyond simply finishing a Grand Prix weekend: trying to stay alive in the MotoGP world championship title fight.
The Aprilia rider arrives in Sepang just days after fracturing the radius in his right wrist during the Sprint race in Australia, an injury that forced him to sit out Sunday's main event. Now, his intention is to test himself on the motorcycle, although he is not even guaranteed to complete the entire weekend.
This precarious situation puts back on the table a recurring question in motorcycle racing for decades: just how far can a rider go when they feel they are facing an opportunity that might never present itself again?

Martin makes no secret of the difficulties he faces. He has admitted that riding with a broken wrist will be truly difficult and painful, noting that he cannot yet perform everyday tasks normally, such as brushing his teeth with his right hand.
The issue goes way beyond merely enduring discomfort. That exact same hand controls the throttle and the front brake, two absolute essential elements for piloting a prototype machine, especially at a demanding circuit like Sepang with its numerous right-hand corners.
Even so, the Spanish rider is determined to give it a try. The driving force behind this decision is purely sporting: he sits ten points behind Marc Marquez in the standings and refuses to surrender his championship aspirations without first discovering his physical limits on track.
