Jorge Martin heads into MotoGP Misano 2026 with a level head. The Aprilia rider insists he is not the favourite, despite the circuit's history being kind to him. Speaking in the pre-race press conference, Martin admitted he still feels behind Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi.
“I have never felt like the favourite. I'm still losing 3-4 tenths on some occasions, and that means I'm not at 100 percent,” Martin said. This is intriguing because Misano is one of his strongest tracks. He has two Sprint wins and one main race victory there. Aprilia also won here last year with Marco Bezzecchi, while Marc Marquez has also tasted success.
Nevertheless, Martin acknowledges the fierce competition this season. He, Marquez, and Bezzecchi are considered slightly ahead of the rest. “The fight is still long, but it seems we three are a bit ahead. I need to start well from Friday to keep fighting for the title,” he added.
In recent races, Martin hasn't returned to the top step. Two podiums in the last six grands prix and only one Sunday win in 2026 are his credentials. However, a win at Misano could provide a huge morale boost for the rest of the season. Moreover, several upcoming circuits suit his riding style.
“I don't feel I have the speed to fight for victory every weekend. I still need to improve. Marc won in Aragon in an impressive way, and Marco will be racing at home. I need to find that speed to fight them and win the title,” Martin explained.
With Misano's technical nature and typically high grip, Aprilia is expected to be competitive. But the pressure remains on Martin, who currently leads the standings. He must stay consistent and capitalise on every opportunity to extend his advantage.
The Misano race will be a mental and technical test for Martin. If he performs strongly, he could return to winning ways and solidify his championship lead. But if he falters, Marquez and Bezzecchi are ready to pounce. One thing is clear: Martin doesn't want the favourite tag.
