Joan Mir has officially received medical clearance to make his much-anticipated comeback at the upcoming Malaysian Grand Prix following a lengthy absence due to a mysterious illness. The 2020 MotoGP world champion was forced to sit out multiple successive rounds while undergoing intensive medical evaluations alongside MotoGP chief medical officer Dr. Angel Charte. This tough decision was made after his physical condition steadily deteriorated throughout the opening phase of the season.

The Spanish rider revealed that his recovery period was exceptionally challenging due to the uncertainty surrounding his diagnosis. Vision issues compounded by extreme fatigue severely hampered his performance over consecutive weekends. Through targeted medical treatment, his health gradually improved following numerous diagnostic tests designed to uncover the root cause behind his physical decline.

The unwavering support provided by Honda and team manager Alberto Puig proved crucial in helping him navigate the stressful recovery process. He expressed deep gratitude for the respectful approach and assistance offered by the Japanese manufacturer during a time when he had to prioritize both mental and physical rehabilitation. Dealing with invisible symptoms proved mentally tougher than recovering from a standard bone fracture due to the complete lack of a predictable recovery timeline.

Now equipped with clear answers regarding his health, the rider enters the weekend with renewed peace of mind. His return to the paddock also coincides with the full recovery of teammate Luca Marini, who had previously missed events due to a viral infection. The return of both regular riders ensures the factory squad is back to full strength for the challenges ahead at Sepang.
