The battle for the MotoGP world championship has taken a definitive mental turn as Joan Mir openly admits that the primary contenders facing Marc Marquez simply lack the psychological resilience required to cope with his relentless pace and intense championship pressure.

Marquez's campaign this season stands out as a masterclass in recovery. Having trailed the championship leader by over 100 points following the Italian Grand Prix in the spring, the seasoned Spaniard has systematically clawed his way back, accelerating toward what could be a milestone tenth world title and an eighth crown in the premier class.

The momentum reached another crucial milestone following the Sprint race in Malaysia, where Marquez secured a strong second-place finish. This result further solidified his commanding position at the top of the standings, leaving his remaining championship adversaries scrambling to close a significant points gap with only a handful of Grands Prix and Sprints remaining on the calendar.

According to Mir, the sheer consistency and absolute focus demonstrated by his compatriot are creating an invisible barrier that the chasing pack struggles to break through, often leading unforced errors under the heavy spotlight of a title showdown.

“I see Marc super-focused on what he has to do, without making any mistakes,” Joan Mir stated following the Sprint race in Malaysia, as reported by Motorsport.com.

“Personally, I think he has the title very much within reach, because the others are not being able to withstand his pressure,” the rider added, highlighting the psychological edge held at the front of the grid.

Away from the title fight, Mir's own afternoon at Sepang unraveled due to a bold strategic gamble. Hoping for a sudden downpour that could shake up the mid-pack order, the Honda HRC rider opted to switch bikes mid-race in anticipation of worsening track conditions.

“Well, I was there in that mid-pack knowing that here is a track that normally nothing happens, it’s like a long train and [the further] back you are the more you struggle with the front to stop and everything,” the Honda HRC rider explained to MotoGP.com.

“So, I started to see that it was quite black, the sky, and it started to rain in turn four and I said 'Maybe it’s the time to take a risky decision today because we are not fighting for [anything]'. I took the risk and it didn’t pay off until the last lap that it started to rain, so it was not the right timing. But you never know in these cases,” he concluded.
