Jenson Button Warns Oscar Piastri: Las Vegas GP 2025 Could Make or Break Title Hopes!

Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Jenson Button has delivered a stark reminder to Oscar Piastri ahead of the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix: the ultra-competitive field means “there’s more to win and lose” in Sin City — and the weekend could prove decisive in his fading championship battle with team-mate Lando Norris.

The 2009 world champion highlighted how Piastri, now 24 points adrift after leading Norris by 34 points just six rounds ago, faces a high-stakes opportunity on a track where the McLaren MCL39 is not expected to dominate.

“Yes — and not just by a couple of points either,” Button told Sky Sports F1. “There are quite a few competitive cars out there. If Oscar puts together a perfect weekend, he could take a big chunk out of Lando’s lead. But it could easily swing the other way if Lando has a strong one. When more cars are fighting at the front, there’s more to win and lose — exciting for us, but a lot more stressful for them.”

A dramatic 58-point swing since the Dutch Grand Prix has flipped the intra-team title fight, leaving Piastri needing near-perfect results across the final three rounds (Las Vegas, Qatar, Abu Dhabi) to keep his maiden championship dream alive.

Button believes the Australian is already taking the right steps to arrest his recent slump. “He’s been through the data and admitted where he’s been weaker than his team-mate  that’s painful, but coming out the other side gives you far more confidence because you know exactly what to improve.”

The Sky pundit also praised Piastri’s support network, singling out manager Mark Webber — a three-time championship runner-up as a vital asset during this pressure-cooker period.

“He’s got great people around him. Mark Webber has been there, almost won the world championship, been through the tough times. That experience is priceless right now.”

With Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, and even Williams showing strong pace in Friday practice, Piastri knows any mistake on the slippery Las Vegas Strip could see his deficit balloon beyond recovery. One perfect weekend, however, could reignite the fight all the way to Abu Dhabi.
