Speculation linking Christian Horner to the Ferrari Team Principal role has finally been clarified. Martin Brundle, former F1 driver turned commentator, revealed he called Horner to get to the bottom of the rumours. The verdict? Brundle firmly refuted any such suggestions.
Horner, who was sacked by Red Bull Racing last July, has been heavily linked with a return to the F1 paddock. In an interview with The Times, he hinted that Ferrari would be a destination he couldn't refuse. That comment sparked wild speculation that he might have been in contact with the Maranello outfit to replace Fred Vasseur.
However, Brundle dismissed that after speaking directly to Horner. "I rang Christian to find out all about it, and he said, 'I was just being polite and respectful about Ferrari in another interview I did, and it took on a wholeg'" Brundle told Sky Sports F1. "It was sort of two plus two equals seven and a half, I think, on that."

Brundle also highlighted the unique nature of the Ferrari Team Principal position. "Being the Ferrari driver or the Ferrari team principal is the best job in Formula 1 and the worst job in Formula 1, all at the same time," he said. "Because the pressure and the hero-zero curve in that team are vertical sometimes, in terms of whether you're amazing or whether you're useless, so you've got to navigate your way through that."
Furthermore, Brundle believes Horner is "not interested" in fast-tracking a way back into the paddock, at least not anytime soon. "I don't think Christian is interested in that," he added. "As he told it to me, that he's interested in anything in particular at the moment in Formula 1, until the right opportunity comes up."
Over the last 12 months, Horner has been linked to a handful of teams, including a potential minority stake acquisition in Alpine. BYD, the Chinese EV giants, have also been mentioned in conversations, with suggestions that the Briton would spearhead its charge into F1. But all that remains speculation.
Interestingly, Horner himself doubts the scenario of working with Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, given the acrimonious conclusion to the 2021 season. "Can you imagine Christian and Lewis working together after 2021? That might be an interesting dynamic for a while there," he concluded. Ferrari themselves have come on record to explicitly back Vasseur for the Team Principal job, earlier this week.
