Lewis Hamilton set the pace during the final practice session ahead of qualifying at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, under warm conditions with ambient temperatures at 28 degrees Celsius and the track reaching 40 degrees. The crucial session was heavily overshadowed by ongoing track limit violations, recalling the 207 lap times deleted across Friday's practice sessions.

To mitigate the issue overnight, track officials widened the white lines at Turns 12, 15, and 20, alongside smoothing out the bumpy braking zone at Turn 19. Despite these modifications, former F1 champion Jenson Button offered a realistic assessment of driver behavior. «Drivers will always go to the limit, no matter how wide a white line is,» he noted regarding the persistent track limit dilemmas.

Top teams adopted a cautious run-plan early in the session to preserve soft Pirelli tires that barely last a single push lap, while waiting for track temperatures to peak to more accurately mirror qualifying conditions. Tension briefly gripped the Ferrari garage when Hamilton's car emitted smoke, drawing concerned glances from team boss John Elkann, though the minor oil overfill proved harmless as the five-time Austin winner immediately resumed running.

The competitive order shuffled as Max Verstappen briefly assumed control, while fast laps from Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc were deleted for track limit infringements. Hamilton ultimately surged to the top on soft compound rubber, edging Verstappen—running on mediums—by 141 milliseconds. Verstappen also expressed typical frustration over team radio regarding erratic downshifting, highlighting the extreme technical demands of balancing the car on the limit of adhesion.

As the session reached its halfway mark, the leaderboard featured Leclerc, Hamilton, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Verstappen, Norris, and George Russell at the sharp end, while German driver Nico Hulkenberg held P12 for Audi following a spirited scrap through the midfield traffic.
