Lewis Hamilton has finally broken his silence. In a statement on social media, Hamilton made it clear he never made such a request.
The rumor first surfaced from Italian publication Corriere della Sera, which alleged that Hamilton was pushing Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur to overhaul operational staff. The report also hinted that the chemistry between Hamilton and Vasseur had cooled. However, Hamilton moved quickly to set the record straight.
“I've seen some of the stories that have gone out and I want to clear it up here. I've never asked for anyone on my team to be replaced,” Hamilton wrote on his Instagram Story. He also emphasized his full support for the team. “Everyone I work with works hard every day, and their dedication is what moves us forward. I always try to empower and lift people to be the best versions of themselves or at least see the best in themselves.”
This statement also quelled speculation that could disrupt Ferrari's focus during a challenging season. Hamilton is indeed facing a tough period. At the Spanish Grand Prix, he suffered his first retirement of the 2026 season after a braking system failure. That DNF was a major blow to his title hopes, leaving him 101 points behind championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
After retiring from the race, Hamilton effectively conceded that the 2026 title is out of reach. He said there will be no stopping Mercedes and Antonelli this season. Currently, Hamilton sits third in the standings with 191 points, 24 points ahead of his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc.
